Helene Aitchison – Owner of Turtle swim school
Helene Aitchison is motivating, passionate, empowering and enthusiastic.
She has a real love for the water and teaching swimming.
She has always been around the water, scuba diving, swimming, surfing and loves to travel and spend time at the beach with her family.
Helene has travelled around the world, worked and managed swim schools in Scotland and America, She returned to NZ and managed an Auckland swim school for 8 years. Helene has worked hard and always dreamt of having her own swim school. Helene has a strong drive when it comes to the learn to swim program and has certificates in Infants, Preschoolers, School Aged, Disabilities and Adults and has also gained a Diploma in Swim Teaching through Swimming New Zealand. She also has her Aust Swim Certification and Skills Active Certificate.
Helene is continually looking for new ideas and ways to improve, spending time at conferences and up skilling regularly.
She has three children who love the water and when she is not looking after them she is in the pool or ocean swimming.
Helene has expertise in teaching children and adults of all ages and abilities.
Helene’s passion has lead to her starting a summer swim school called Turtle Swim School. With the vision to teach children from the diverse community and enrich their lives with the same passion and enjoyment for the water that she has.
In 2015 she put a 12 meter pool in her back yard with the vision to teach the children in the local community in Papamoa, Tauranga. She loves teaching children in the summer in the beautiful Bay of Plenty.
In 2018/2019 summer Helene was contracted by Swimming New Zealand to go into the local schools and deliver the water skills for life programme. Teaching our tamariki to be safe in and around the water here in the Bay of Plenty.

This is the highest qualification you can gain as a swimming teacher in New Zealand
